Staff Profile
Robin Creed - Editor Carol Sue Hale has joined our staff as a field editor this month. I’m going to let her tell you about herself, in her own words. In 1971, when my oldest daughter was falling madly in love she wanted to get her boyfriend a "Persian" cat and specifically a black smoke. She did and nothing would satisfy either of them but for me to buy and house a whole male! I did, it was about the ugliest red Persian I have ever seen - didn't think so then but looking back ugh! (If Robin will scan a picture of him - yes I still have one - she can put up his picture, now mind you this is from 1971! The only thing uglier was the black smoke female. After that I bought a female - a blue-cream ok, so it is or was a blue tortie. She was ok but never could get her breed. After that I found a smoke tortie and bred her for exotics - some were pretty good and some were really bad. One of the judges of another organization told me that I could not breed and Exotic SH out of an unknown (registration for American Shorthair was still open) and Persian and have a showable Grand in 3 generations - Well I did it. I started with a "tortie barn cat" and with the open registration I registered this "barn cat" as an American Shorthair and bred it to my double ugly red Persian. This produced another ugly shorthair - Red Tabby, and she was bred to a black that gave me a tortie (proper coat length for an exotic sh) who in turn produced the Red Classic Tabby that I named GARFIELD. He was a challenge because as the comic strip character he was one too, I must say that he could have been the real Garfield in the comic strips. Bob Bradshaw granded the cat in Boise Idaho (or close to Boise). All of this was while a member of "the other organization" of which I was a faithful member for almost 20 years. A friend - Pat Gonser - gave me a beautiful brown classic tabby American Shorthair that I showed in "the other organization" and then in TICA - you may remember Thendara's Shuffle off to Buffalo of Greystoke - yeah - OLD HOSER! my original hoser. He was 6th best cat in the SC region and also an International Winner at the Spokane WA, annual. Now I have anothr American not quite as bad as a hoser, DREAMSCAPE PDQ EXITER OF GREYSTOKE. I think that PD only does it when he is bored or gets miffed with the judge. I missed my exotics and thanx to Mary Ann Morrison and the loan of a persian to breed to my 11 year old white male (A supreme grand champion by the way) masking red I now have a tortie exotic kitten cute as a button. I have a black exotic female kitten from Julie Curd and a brown tabby and white male coming from Florida and Betty Haddix. I also have the use of a red tabby and white exotic from Colleen Parks along with a blue tortie kitten. Aren't friends just wonderful?!? I thank all of you and to all I am very grateful. Thank you again. I took on the job as some kind of editor for Robin (and hope I don't screw it up - took 1 year of journalism in college back in 1950 and 51 - that does qualify me, doesn't it??) Does any of this tell you how old I really am? I am counting on each and every one of my friends to tell on the other of my friends so that I may really come up with some good stuff for this magazine as the job requires. I need to know about your grands, (that includes the grandkids, and supremes), I need to know if you need help, I need to know if I can help you with your shows or if you need help with any of the upcoming shows. You may call me at 713 666 3333 - 713 703 6555 or email me a greystokecats@earthlink.net I look forward to hearing from each and every one of you. I know you all have some kind of tale to tell.
