Carol's Corner

There are 2 subjects that I would like to broach but one is kind of sticky, the other is just plain miserable.

Are cat shows supposed to be fun???

I said when I started out showing 30xxxx years ago that when they stopped being fun I would quit. WELL I'M NOT READY TO QUIT! I have several kittens I would like to show and 1 or 2 adults that need to be granded and basically I AM HAVING FUN but . . . Is is really fun when other breeders and showers, and judges for that matter, are cut up, chewed up, and spit out? If major problems occur, why can't we, as civilized and fun loving exhibitors, judges, and owners go and talk to these people who supposedly have "dun us rong" and see if the matter cannot be cleared up this way. Why can't "we" (you, me, exhibitors, showers, judges) just say "well gee, I'm sorry" and this apology be accepted.

Why should we feel as though we have to "get" somebody if they don't judge or think the same way as we do. Several years ago there was a foreign judge that I could have filed a report on for spinning my cat around - all 18 pounds of him - dropping him on the floor and standing around looking dumb. I didn't, but I sure thought about it. To me it was an accident and accidents do happen. Some exhibitors, as well as others, open their mouth and insert their foot and then do it again without ever changing feet and that is a mouthfull. I'm not calling any names because I can be the world's worst offender. Many of you have not seen my shirts that I sometimes wear to the show: (1) IF YOU DON'T LIKE MY ATTITUDE, QUIT TALKING TO ME or (2) I'M NOT A BXXXX, I AM THE BXXXX. I sometimes feel like being different and wearing something that will create some kind of comment and either one of those shirts usually do (my frog pants always get comments).

Why can we not all just agree to disagree and unless it is some life threatening situation JUST LET IT GO! and go back to having fun at the shows - enjoy life, life is too short not to enjoy.

Now if you all are still talking to me, the other subject is ALLERGIES! If people have allergies to cats, dogs, trees, grass, mold etc etc etc, don't you think that your show animal might too. Boy I have been hit heavy with allergies this year and right after the Bayou City show last week end. I finally had enough of sniffling, snorting , blowing etc and went to an allergist for HELP! Now I am not sniffling, snorting, and blowing but I am drunk as a skunk. Which is worse. Think about your animals and what can be done to help them with allergy attacks. The stuff is out there folks and if it affects us it is bound to affect our furry friends.

Well thanx again for letting me expound and hope nobody's feelings are hurt.
